The Promising Future - PIP

A Story Telling Project

This project plan that I have thought about implementing will involve the entire Junior level in my school. I'll begin by training the teachers first I see my colleagues as "fire fighters" fighting along side with me in this project hence they must be properly armed before we could begin with training the parents. Next, my colleagues and I will be working with the parents. The parents are the closest to the students, hence engaging their help will really reap fruitful results when teaching the students a new skill.

Which app will I use for creating stories and why?

I had planned to use Educreation, after exploring with it with my students in class. I thought this is really a good tool to engage the students' attention and learning. Students, who are usually quiet in class, began to speak out when I was demonstrating how to use the app. I saw their smiles and responses hence I thought, this will be really helpful for their learning and best part is, the students' voice will be recorded as they draw or add pictures. The students were so happy when they heard their own voices.

The other reason why I use this app is, our school has 10 ipads on loan should the parents need it. This way, we will not have to disappoint any interested participants who want to participate in the story telling but does not have an ipad.

Colleagues:

Before the start of the training sessions, I will share the use of Educreation, Screencast-O-Matic and Kahoot. We will have the hands-on training for about 2 weeks. During which, they can revisit my training through screencasting tutorials and video recording of the training for that session. My colleagues will be given ample time to try out this new tools.

Parents and Students:

I thought involving parents will be a great idea because this will give the teachers opportunity to create rapport with the parents, and for the parents to get to know the teachers. The other most important reason is to create parent and child bonding. Sometimes, the parents are so busy that they do not have time for their children or for some, they do not know how to engage their children at home. Hence, working on the story will be some meaningful time spent with their child. In addition, this will be a great way for their children to pick up some language skills through story creation.

Objectives for the story telling project:

1) Create parent-child bonding through story creation

2) Develop self-esteem through story creation
